Luke, 14

12. Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor [thy] rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

Luke chapter 14 begins with Jesus healing a man on a Saturday and arguing with the Pharisees about what was allowed to do on this day. Then he tells a parable about a man who gives a big banquet and invites many people, but many of them make apologies and don't attend. Matthew 22:2-3: "The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet to his son. He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet, but they refused to go." Proverbs 25:6-7: "Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, nor claim a place among the great; it is better for being invited: 'Come up loud,' than to be demoted in the presence of the prince."
