Job, 8
1. Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
1. Sitten suuhilainen Bildad lausui ja sanoi:
2. How long wilt thou speak these [things]? and [how long shall] the words of thy mouth [be like] a strong wind?
2. "Kuinka kauan sinä senkaltaisia haastat ja suusi puheet ovat kuin raju myrsky?
3. Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice?
3. Jumalako vääristäisi oikeuden, Kaikkivaltiasko vääristäisi vanhurskauden?
4. If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;
4. Jos lapsesi tekivät syntiä häntä vastaan, niin hän hylkäsi heidät heidän rikoksensa valtaan.
5. If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty;
5. Jos sinä etsit Jumalaa ja anot Kaikkivaltiaalta armoa,
6. If thou [wert] pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.
6. jos olet puhdas ja rehellinen, silloin hän varmasti heräjää sinun avuksesi ja asettaa entiselleen sinun vanhurskautesi asunnon.
7. Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.
7. Silloin sinun alkusi näyttää vähäiseltä, mutta loppuaikasi varttuu ylen suureksi.
8. For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:
8. Sillä kysypä aikaisemmalta sukupolvelta, tarkkaa, mitä heidän isänsä ovat tutkineet.
9. (For we [are but of] yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth [are] a shadow:)
9. Mehän olemme eilispäivän lapsia emmekä mitään tiedä, päivämme ovat vain varjo maan päällä.
10. Shall not they teach thee, [and] tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?
10. He sinua opettavat ja sanovat sinulle, tuovat ilmi sanat sydämestään:
11. Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water?
11. 'Kasvaako kaisla siinä, missä ei ole rämettä? rehottaako ruoko siinä, missä ei ole vettä?
12. Whilst it [is] yet in his greenness, [and] not cut down, it withereth before any [other] herb.
12. Vielä vihreänä ollessaan, ennenaikaisena leikattavaksi, se kuivettuu ennen kuin mikään muu heinä.
13. So [are] the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:
13. Niin käy kaikkien niiden, jotka unhottavat Jumalan, ja jumalattoman toivo katoaa,
14. Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust [shall be] a spider's web.
14. hänen, jonka uskallus on langan varassa, jonka turvana on hämähäkinverkko.
15. He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.
15. Hän nojaa taloonsa, mutta se ei seiso, hän tarttuu siihen, mutta se ei kestä.
16. He [is] green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden.
16. Hän on rehevänä auringon paisteessa, ja hänen vesansa leviävät yli puutarhan.
17. His roots are wrapped about the heap, [and] seeth the place of stones.
17. Hänen juurensa kietoutuvat kiviroukkioon, hän kiinnittää katseensa kivitaloon.
18. If he destroy him from his place, then [it] shall deny him, [saying], I have not seen thee.
18. Mutta kun Jumala hävittää hänet hänen paikastansa, niin se kieltää hänet: En ole sinua koskaan nähnyt.
19. Behold, this [is] the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.
19. Katso, siinä oli hänen vaelluksensa ilo, ja tomusta kasvaa toisia.'
20. Behold, God will not cast away a perfect [man], neither will he help the evil doers:
20. Katso, Jumala ei hylkää nuhteetonta eikä tartu pahantekijäin käteen.
21. Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing.
21. Vielä hän täyttää sinun suusi naurulla ja huulesi riemulla.
22. They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.
22. Sinun vihamiehesi verhotaan häpeällä, ja jumalattomien majaa ei enää ole."
