Mark, 15

1. Early in the morning, the chief priests, the elders and the teachers of the Law (that is, the whole Council or Sanhedrin) had their plan ready. They put Jesus in chains, led him away and handed him over to Pilate.

St. Mark 15 describes the arrest, judgment and crucifixion of Jesus. The chapter is rich in detail and emotion, and reveals the injustice that Jesus suffered in the hands of the religious and political leaders of his time. Here are five Bible verses that are related to the topics addressed in St. Mark 15:

Isaiah 53:5: "But he was wounded by our transgressions, and ground for our iniquities; the punishment that brings us peace was upon him, and by his footsteps we were healed." This prophetic verse of Isaiah talks about the suffering that Jesus endured in the name of humanity. He carried our sins and was punished in our place.

Romans 5:8: "But God proves His love to us, in which Christ died for us, we are still sinners." This verse reminds us that although we are sinners, God loved us so much that he sent his Son Jesus to die for us on the cross.

John 19:17: "And he, taking his cross, went out to the place called Calvary, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha." This verse reminds us of the burden that Jesus carried when he went to the cross. He carried his own cross through the streets of Jerusalem before being crucified on Calvary.

Philippians 2:8: "And, found in the form of a man, he humbled himself, being obedient to death, and death of the cross." This verse talks about the humility of Jesus, who became man and submitted to death on the cross to save humanity.

Hebrews 12:2: "Looking at Jesus, author and consummator of faith, who for the sake of him endured the cross, despising the affront, and settled on the right hand of the throne of God." This verse encourages us to follow the example of Jesus, who endured the cross and overcame temptation so that we may have eternal life with Him in heaven.
