1 Maccabees, 3

37. The king took with him the remaining half of the army and set out from Antioch, the capital of the kingdom, in the year one hundred and forty-seven. He crossed the river Euphrates and went through the upper provinces.

2 Chronicles 20:15: "Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but of God." This passage shows that God is the true commander in times of war and that victory belongs to him.

Proverbs 21:31: "The horse is prepared for battle day, but victory comes from the Lord." This passage shows the importance of preparation for war, but also that victory depends on divine aid.

Ephesians 6:11: "They see the whole armor of God so they can be firm against the devil's pitfalls." This passage talks about the importance of divine protection in spiritual battle and shows that the struggle against the forces of evil requires spiritual armor.
