1 Kings, 16

7. And when the word of the Lord had arrived by the hand of the prophet Jehu, the son of Hanani, against Baasha, and against his house, and against every evil that he had done before the Lord, so that he provoked him by the works of his hands, so that he became like the house of Jeroboam: for this reason, he killed him, that is, the prophet Jehu, the son of Hanani.

This can be applied to the context of 1 Kings 16, in which the kings of Israel and Judah were unable to protect their kingdoms from destruction due to their sins.

Psalm 89:30-32: "If your children abandon my law and not follow my ordinances, if they violate my decrees and not keep my commandments, then I will punish their sins and whipping their iniquity with rod."
