Matthieu, 17

1. Six jours après, Jésus prend avec lui Pierre, Jacqueset Jean son frère, et il les emmène à l'écart sur une haute montagne

1. After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.

2. Et il se transfigura devant eux : son visage resplendit comme lesoleil, et ses vêtements devinrent blancs comme la lumière.

2. And he was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light.

3. Et voilà que Moïse et Elie leur apparurent, conversantavec lui.

3. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him.

4. Prenant la parole, Pierre dit à Jésus : " Seigneur,il nous est bon d'être ici; si vous le voulez, je ferai ici trois tentes, une pour vous, une pour Moïse et une pourElie. "

4. Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, "Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."

5. Il parlait encore, lorsqu'une nuée lumineuse les couvrit,et voilà que du sein de la nuée une voix dit : " Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé, en qui j'ai mismes complaisances : écoutez-le. "

5. While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him."

6. En entendant, les disciples tombèrent la face contre terreet furent saisis d'une grande frayeur.

6. When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid.

7. Et Jésus, s'approchant, les toucha et dit : " Levez-vous,ne craignez point. "

7. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, "Rise, and do not be afraid."

8. Levant les yeux, ils ne virent plus que Jésus seul.

8. And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone.

9. Comme ils descendaient de la montagne, Jésus leur fit ce commandement: " Ne parlez à personne de cette vision, jusqu'à ce que le Fils de l'hommesoit ressuscité des morts. "10 Les disciples l'interrogèrent, disant : " Pourquoi donc lesscribes disent-ils qu'il faut qu'Elie vienne d'abord? "

9. to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."

10. Then the disciples asked him, "Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"

11. Il répondit : " Elie vient en effet, et il restaurera touteschoses.

11. He said in reply, "Elijah will indeed come and restore all things;

12. Mais je vous dis qu'Elie est déjà venu; et ils nel'ont pas reconnu, mais ils l'on traité comme ils ont voulu. De même le Fils de l'homme doit souffrir par eux."

12. but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased. So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands."

13. Les disciples comprirent alors qu'il leur avait parlé deJean le Baptiste.

13. Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.

14. Quand ils furent arrivés près de la foule, un hommes'approcha de lui et, tombant à genoux devant lui, dit :

14. When they came to the crowd a man approached, knelt down before him,

15. " Seigneur, ayez pitié de mon fils ,car il est lunatiqueet il est bien mal : en effet il tombe souvent dans le feu et souvent dans l'eau.

15. and said, "Lord, have pity on my son, for he is a lunatic and suffers severely; often he falls into fire, and often into water.

16. Je l'ai amené à vos disciples, et ils n'ont pas pule guérir. "

16. I brought him to your disciples, but they could not cure him."

17. Jésus répondit : " O génération incréduleet perverse, jusques à quand serai-je avec vous? Jusques à quand vous supporterai-je? Amenez-le-moi ici. "

17. Jesus said in reply, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long will I be with you? How long will I endure you? Bring him here to me."

18. Et Jésus lui commanda avec force, et le démon sortitde lui, et l'enfant fut guéri à l'heure même.

18. Jesus rebuked him and the demon came out of him, and from that hour the boy was cured.

19. Alors les disciples vinrent trouver Jésus, en particulier,et dirent : " Pourquoi n'avons-nous pas pu le chasser? "

19. Then the disciples approached Jesus in private and said, "Why could we not drive it out?"

20. Il leur dit : " A cause de votre manque de foi. En vérité,je vous le dis, si vous avez de la foi comme un grain de sénevé, vous direz à cette montagne: Passe d'ici là, et elle y passera, et rien ne vous sera impossible.

20. He said to them, "Because of your little faith. Amen, I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

21. Mais ce genre (de démon) n'est chassé que par la prièreet le jeûne. "

22. Comme ils étaient groupés en Galilée, Jésusleur dit : " Le Fils de l'homme doit être livré entre les mains des hommes,

22. As they were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is to be handed over to men,

23. et ils le mettront à mort, et il ressuscitera le troisièmejour. " Et ils furent vivement attristés.

23. and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day." And they were overwhelmed with grief.

24. Lorsqu'ils furent arrivés à Capharnaüm, ceux quirecueillaient les didrachmes s'approchèrent de Pierre et dirent : " Votre Maître ne paie-t-il pas les didrachmes?"

24. approached Peter and said, "Doesn't your teacher pay the temple tax?"

25. Il dit : " Si. " Et quand il entra dans la maison, Jésusle prévint disant : " Que t'en semble, Simon? De qui les rois de la terre perçoivent-ils taxes ou impôt?De leurs fils ou des étrangers? "

25. "Yes," he said. When he came into the house, before he had time to speak, Jesus asked him, "What is your opinion, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take tolls or census tax? From their subjects or from foreigners?"

26. Comme il disait : " Des étrangers, " Jésus lui dit: " Les fils en sont donc exempts.

26. When he said, "From foreigners," Jesus said to him, "Then the subjects are exempt.

27. Mais pour ne pas les scandaliser, va à la mer, jette l'hameçon,tire le premier poisson qui montera; puis, lui ouvrant la bouche, tu y trouveras un statère;prends-le et donne-le-leur pour moi et pour toi."

27. But that we may not offend them, go to the sea, drop in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up. Open its mouth and you will find a coin worth twice the temple tax. Give that to them for me and for you."
