Jean, 1

1. Au commencement était le Verbe, et le Verbe était en Dieu, et le Verbe était Dieu.

1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2. Il était au commencement en Dieu.

2. He was in the beginning with God.

3. Tout par lui a été fait, et sans lui n'a été fait rien de ce qui existe.

3. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be

4. En lui était la vie, et la vie était la lumière des hommes,

4. through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race;

5. Et la lumière luit dans les ténèbres, et les ténèbres ne l'ont point reçue.

5. the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

6. Il y eut un homme, envoyé de Dieu; son nom était Jean.

6. A man named John was sent from God.

7. Celui-ci vint en témoignage, pour rendre témoignage à la lumière, afin que tous crussent par lui:

7. He came for testimony, to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him.

8. non que celui-ci fût la lumière, mais il avait à rendre témoignage à la lumière.

8. He was not the light, but came to testify to the light.

9. La lumière, la vraie, celle qui éclaire tout homme, venait dans le monde.

9. The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.

10. Il ( le Verbe) était dans le monde, et le monde par lui a été fait, et le monde ne l'a pas connu.

10. He was in the world, and the world came to be through him, but the world did not know him.

11. Il vint chez lui, et les siens ne l'ont pas reçu.

11. He came to what was his own, but his own people did not accept him.

12. Mais quant à tous ceux qui l'ont reçu, Il leur a donné le pouvoir de devenir enfants de Dieu, à ceux qui croient en son nom,

12. But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believe in his name,

13. Qui non du sang, ni de la volonté de la chair, ni de la volonté de l'homme, mais de Dieu sont nés.

13. who were born not by natural generation nor by human choice nor by a man's decision but of God.

14. Et le Verbe s'est fait chair, et il a habité parmi nous, (et nous avons vu sa gloire, gloire comme celle qu'un fils unique tient de son Père) tout plein de grâce et de vérité.

14. And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father's only Son, full of grace and truth.

15. Jean lui rend témoignage, et s'écrie en ces termes: "Voici celui dont je disais: Celui qui vient après moi, est passé devant moi, parce qu'il était avant moi."

15. John testified to him and cried out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'The one who is coming after me ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.'"

16. et c'est de sa plénitude, que nous avons tous reçu, et grâce sur grâce;

16. From his fullness we have all received, grace in place of grace,

17. parce que la loi a été donnée par Moïse, la grâce et la vérité sont venues par Jésus-Christ.

17. because while the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

18. Dieu, personne ne le vit jamais: le Fils unique, qui est dans le sein du Père c'est lui qui l'a fait connaître.

18. No one has ever seen God. The only Son, God, who is at the Father's side, has revealed him.

19. Et voici le témoignage que rendit Jean, lorsque les Juifs envoyèrent de Jérusalem des prêtres et des lévites pour lui demander: "Qui êtes-vous?"

19. And this is the testimony of John. When the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites (to him) to ask him, "Who are you?"

20. Il déclara, et ne le nia point; il déclara: "Je ne suis point le Christ."

20. he admitted and did not deny it, but admitted, "I am not the Messiah."

21. Et ils lui demandèrent: "Quoi donc! Etes-vous Elie?" Il dit " Je ne le suis point" " Etes-vous le prophète?" Il répondit " Non"

21. So they asked him, "What are you then? Are you Elijah?" And he said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No."

22. "Qui êtes-vous donc", lui dirent-ils, afin que nous donnions une réponse à ceux qui nous ont envoyés. "Que dites-vous de vous-même?"

22. So they said to him, "Who are you, so we can give an answer to those who sent us? What do you have to say for yourself?"

23. Il répondit: "Je suis la voix de celui qui crie dans le désert: Aplanissez le chemin du Seigneur, comme l'a dit le prophète Isaïe."

23. He said: "I am 'the voice of one crying out in the desert, "Make straight the way of the Lord,"' as Isaiah the prophet said."

24. Or ceux qu'on lui avait envoyés étaient des Pharisiens.

24. Some Pharisees were also sent.

25. Et ils l'interrogèrent, et lui dirent: "Pourquoi donc baptisez-vous, si vous n'êtes ni le Christ, ni Elie, ni le Prophète?"

25. They asked him, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet?"

26. Jean leur répondit: "Moi je baptise dans l'eau; mais au milieu de vous il y a quelqu'un que vous ne connaissez pas,

26. John answered them, "I baptize with water; but there is one among you whom you do not recognize,

27. C'est celui qui vient après moi; je ne suis pas digne de délier la courroie de sa chaussure."

27. the one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie."

28. Cela se passait à Béthanie, au delà du Jourdain, où Jean baptisait.

28. This happened in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

29. Le lendemain, Jean vit Jésus qui venait vers lui, et il dit: "Voici l'agneau de Dieu, voici celui qui ôte le péché du monde.

29. The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.

30. C'est de lui que j'ai dit: un homme vient après moi, qui est passé devant moi, parce qu'il était avant moi."

30. He is the one of whom I said, 'A man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.'

31. Et moi, je ne le connaissais pas, mais c'est afin qu'il fût manifesté à Israël que je suis venu baptiser dans l'eau."

31. I did not know him, but the reason why I came baptizing with water was that he might be made known to Israel."

32. Et Jean rendit témoignage en disant: "J'ai vu l'Esprit descendre du ciel comme une colombe, et il s'est reposé sur lui.

32. John testified further, saying, "I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from the sky and remain upon him.

33. Et moi je ne le connaissais pas; mais celui qui m'a envoyé baptiser dans l'eau m'a dit: Celui sur qui tu verras l'Esprit descendre et se reposer, c'est lui qui baptise dans l'Esprit-Saint.

33. I did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain, he is the one who will baptize with the holy Spirit.'

34. Et moi j'ai vu et j'ai rendu témoignage que celui-là est le Fils de Dieu."

34. Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God."

35. Le lendemain , Jean se trouvait encore là, avec deux de ses disciples.

35. The next day John was there again with two of his disciples,

36. Et ayant regardé Jésus qui passait, il dit: "Voici l'Agneau de Dieu."

36. and as he watched Jesus walk by, he said, "Behold, the Lamb of God."

37. Les deux disciples l'entendirent parler, et ils suivirent Jésus.

37. The two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus.

38. Jésus s'étant retourné, et voyant qu'ils le suivaient, leur dit: "Que cherchez-vous?" Ils lui répondirent: "Rabbi (ce qui signifie Maître), où demeurez-vous?

38. Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them, "What are you looking for?" They said to him, "Rabbi" (which translated means Teacher), "where are you staying?"

39. Il leur dit: "Venez et vous verrez." Ils allèrent et virent où il demeurait, et ils restèrent auprès de lui ce jour-là. Or c'était environ la dixième heure.

39. He said to them,"Come, and you will see." So they went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about four in the afternoon.

40. Or, André, le frère de Simon-Pierre, était l'un des deux qui avaient entendu la parole de Jean, et qui avaient suivi Jésus.

40. Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard John and followed Jesus.

41. Il rencontra d'abord son frère Simon, et lui dit: "Nous avons trouvé le Messie (ce qui se traduit Christ)."

41. He first found his own brother Simon and told him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated Anointed).

42. Et il l'amena à Jésus. Jésus, l'ayant regardé dit: "Toi, tu es Simon, fils de Jean; tu seras appelé Céphas (ce qui se traduit Pierre)."

42. Then he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon the son of John; you will be called Kephas" (which is translated Peter).

43. Le jour suivant, Jésus résolut d'aller en Galilée. Et il rencontra Philippe.

43. The next day he decided to go to Galilee, and he found Philip. And Jesus said to him, "Follow me."

44. Et Jésus lui dit: "Suis-moi." Philippe était de Bethsaïde, la ville d'André et de Pierre.

44. Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the town of Andrew and Peter.

45. Philippe rencontra Nathanaël et lui dit: "Nous avons trouvé celui dont Moïse a écrit dans la Loi, ainsi que les Prophètes: c'est Jésus, fils de Joseph de Nazareth."

45. Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one about whom Moses wrote in the law, and also the prophets, Jesus, son of Joseph, from Nazareth."

46. Nathanaël lui répondit: " Peut-il sortir de Nazareth quelque chose de bon?" Philippe lui dit: "Viens et vois."

46. But Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come from Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."

47. Jésus vit venir vers lui Nathanaël, et dit en parlant de lui: "Voici vraiment un Israélite, en qui il n'y a nul artifice."

47. Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, "Here is a true Israelite. There is no duplicity in him."

48. Nathanaël lui dit: "D'où me connaissez-vous?" Jésus repartit et lui dit: "Avant que Philippe t'appelât, lorsque tu étais sous le figuier, je t'ai vu."

48. Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree."

49. Nathanaël lui répondit: "Rabbi, vous êtes le Fils de Dieu, vous êtes le Roi d'Israël."

49. Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel."

50. Jésus lui repartit: "Parce que je t'ai dit: Je t'ai vu sous le figuier, tu crois! Tu verras de plus grandes choses que celle-là."

50. Jesus answered and said to him, "Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this."

51. Et il ajouta: "En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, vous verrez désormais le ciel ouvert, et les anges de Dieu montant et descendant sur le Fils de l'homme."

51. And he said to him, "Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see the sky opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."
