1 Chroniques, 13

1. David tint conseil avec les chefs de milliers et de centaines, avec tous les princes.

1. After David had taken counsel with his commanders of thousands and of hundreds, that is to say, with every one of his leaders,

2. Et David dit à toute l'assemblée d'Israël: "Si vous le trouvez bon et si cela parait venir de Yahweh, notre Dieu, envoyons au plus vite vers le reste de nos frères, dans toutes les contrées d'Israël, et aussi vers les prêtres et les lévites dans les villes où sont leurs pâturages, afin qu'ils se réunissent à nous,

2. he said to the whole assembly of Israel: "If it seems good to you, and is so decreed by the LORD our God, let us summon the rest of our brethren from all the districts of Israel, and also the priests and the Levites from their cities with pasture lands, that they may join us;

3. et que nous ramenions auprès de nous l'arche de notre Dieu, car nous ne nous en sommes pas occupés dans les jours de Saül."

3. and let us bring the ark of our God here among us, for in the days of Saul we did not visit it."

4. Toute l'assemblée dit de faire ainsi, la chose ayant paru convenable aux yeux de tout le peuple.

4. And the whole assembly agreed to do this, for the idea was pleasing to all the people.

5. David assembla donc tout Israël, depuis le Sihor d'Égypte jusqu'à l'entrée d'Emath, pour faire venir de Cariathiarim l'arche de Dieu.

5. Then David assembled all Israel, from Shihor of Egypt to Labo of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.

6. Et David, avec tout Israël, monta à Baala, à Cariathiarim, qui est à Juda, pour faire monter de là l'arche de Dieu, de Yahweh qui siège sur les Chérubins, sur laquelle le Nom est invoqué.

6. David and all Israel went up to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim, of Judah, to bring back the ark of God, which was known by the name "LORD enthroned upon the cherubim."

7. Ils placèrent sur un chariot neuf l'arche de Dieu. Il l'emmenèrent de la maison d'Abinadab: Oza et Ahio conduisaient le chariot.

7. They transported the ark of God on a new cart from the house of Abinadab; Uzzah and Ahio were guiding the cart,

8. David et tout Israël dansaient devant Dieu de toute leur force, en chantant, et en jouant des harpes, des luths, des tambourins, des cymbales et des trompettes.

8. while David and all Israel danced before God with great enthusiasm, amid songs and music on lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets.

9. Lorsqu'ils furent arrivés à l'aire de Chidon. Oza étendit la main pour saisir l'arche, parce que les boeufs avaient fait un faux pas.

9. As they reached the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah stretched out his hand to steady the ark, for the oxen were upsetting it.

10. La colère de Yahweh s'enflamma contre Oza, et Yahweh le frappa, parce qu'il avait étendu la main sur l'arche; et Oza mourut là, devant Dieu.

10. Then the LORD became angry with Uzzah and struck him; he died there in God's presence, because he had laid his hand on the ark.

11. David fut fâché de ce que Yahweh avait ainsi porté un coup à Oza; et ce lieu a été appelé jusqu'à ce jour Phéréts-Oza.

11. David was disturbed because the LORD'S anger had broken out against Uzzah. Therefore that place has been called Perez-uzza even to this day.

12. David eut peur de Dieu en ce jour-là, et il dit: "Comment ferais-je venir vers moi l'arche de Dieu?"

12. David was now afraid of God, and he said, "How can I bring the ark of God with me?"

13. David ne retira pas l'arche chez lui, dans la cité de David, et il la fit conduire dans la maison d'Obédédom de Geth.

13. Therefore he did not take the ark back with him to the City of David, but he took it instead to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

14. L'arche de Dieu resta trois mois avec la famille d'Obédédom, dans sa maison; et Yahweh bénit la maison d'Obédédom et tout ce qui lui appartenait

14. The ark of God remained in the house of Obed-edom with his family for three months, and the LORD blessed Obed-edom's household and all that he possessed.
