In Jeremiah 42, the remnant of Judah, led by Joanan, consults Jeremiah to find out whether or not to go to Egypt in search of security. Jeremiah seeks God's will and responds that if they remain in Judah, they will be blessed, but if they go to Egypt, they will be punished. However, they refuse to listen and decide to go to Egypt. Below are five verses related to the topics addressed in Jeremiah 42:
Jeremiah 7:3: "Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: improve their ways and actions, and I will make them dwell in this place." This verse shows God's message to the people of Judah, encouraging them to repent and improve their actions so that they can remain in their land.
Jeremiah 26:13: "Now change their lives and conduct, and obey the voice of the Lord, His God, that He may repent of the evil he has announced against you." This verse shows how Jeremiah urges the people to repent and change their lives to avoid divine punishment.
Jeremiah 37:17: "Then King Zedekiah had he sought him and questioned him in particular in his palace, asking, Is there any word of the Lord?" This verse shows how Zedekiah seeks God's Word through Jeremiah.
Ezekiel 3:18: "When I say to an ungodly: surely you will die, and you do not warn you or speak to dissuade him from his evil ways to live, that wicked will die because of his sin, but I I will ask you to account for you. " This verse shows how God charges Jeremiah's responsibility regarding the message He must convey to the people.
Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord of all your heart and do not rely on your own understanding; recognize the Lord in all your ways, and He will straighten your paths." This verse teaches to trust God and seek His will in all situations rather than trusting our own limited understanding.
