Jean, 21

1. Après cela, Jésus se montra de nouveau à ses disciples sur les bords de la mer de Tibériade: et il se montra ainsi:

1. After this, Jesus revealed himself again to his disciples at the Sea of Tiberias. He revealed himself in this way.

2. Simon-Pierre, Thomas appelé Didyme, Nathanaël, qui était de Cana en Galilée, les fils de Zébédée et deux autres de ses disciples étaient ensemble.

2. Together were Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, Zebedee's sons, and two others of his disciples.

3. Simon-Pierre leur dit: "Je vais pêcher." Ils lui dirent: "Nous y allons, nous aussi, avec toi." Ils sortirent donc et montèrent dans la barque; mais ils ne prirent rien cette nuit-là.

3. Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We also will come with you." So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.

4. Le matin venu, Jésus se trouva sur le rivage; mais les disciples ne savaient pas que c'était Jésus.

4. When it was already dawn, Jesus was standing on the shore; but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.

5. Et Jésus leur dit: "Enfants, n'avez-vous rien à manger?" Non, répondirent-ils.

5. Jesus said to them, "Children, have you caught anything to eat?" They answered him, "No."

6. Il leur dit: "Jetez le filet à droite de la barque, et vous trouverez." Ils le jetèrent, et ils ne pouvaient plus le tirer à cause de la grande quantité de poissons.

6. So he said to them, "Cast the net over the right side of the boat and you will find something." So they cast it, and were not able to pull it in because of the number of fish.

7. Alors, le disciple que Jésus aimait dit à Pierre: "C'est le Seigneur!" Simon-Pierre, ayant entendu que c'était le Seigneur, mit son vêtement et sa ceinture, car il était nu, et se jeta dans la mer.

7. So the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord." When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he tucked in his garment, for he was lightly clad, and jumped into the sea.

8. Les autres disciples vinrent avec la barque (car ils n'étaient éloignés de la terre que d'environ deux cents coudées), en tirant le filet plein de poissons.

8. The other disciples came in the boat, for they were not far from shore, only about a hundred yards, dragging the net with the fish.

9. Quand ils furent descendus à terre, ils virent là des charbons allumés, du poisson mis dessus, et du pain.

9. When they climbed out on shore, they saw a charcoal fire with fish on it and bread.

10. Jésus leur dit: "Apportez de ces poissons que vous venez de prendre."

10. Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish you just caught."

11. Simon-Pierre monta dans la barque, et tira à terre le filet qui était plein de cent cinquante-trois grands poissons; et quoiqu'il y en eût un si grand nombre, le filet ne se rompit point.

11. So Simon Peter went over and dragged the net ashore full of one hundred fifty-three large fish. Even though there were so many, the net was not torn.

12. Jésus leur dit: "Venez et mangez." Et aucun des disciples n'osait lui demander: "Qui êtes-vous?" parce qu'ils savaient qu'il était le Seigneur.

12. Jesus said to them, "Come, have breakfast." And none of the disciples dared to ask him, "Who are you?" because they realized it was the Lord.

13. Jésus s'approcha, et prenant le pain, il leur en donna; il fit de même du poisson.

13. Jesus came over and took the bread and gave it to them, and in like manner the fish.

14. C'était déjà la troisième fois que Jésus apparaissait à ses disciples, depuis qu'il avait ressuscité des morts.

14. This was now the third time Jesus was revealed to his disciples after being raised from the dead.

15. Lorsqu'ils eurent mangé, Jésus dit à Simon-Pierre: " Simon, fils de Jean, m'aimes-tu plus que ceux-ci?" Il lui répondit: "Oui, Seigneur, vous savez que je vous aime." Jésus lui dit: "Pais mes agneaux."

15. When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs."

16. Il lui dit une seconde fois: "Simon, fils de Jean, m'aimes-tu?" Pierre lui répondit: " Oui, Seigneur, vous savez bien que je vous aime." Jésus lui dit: "Pais mes agneaux."

16. He then said to him a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep."

17. Il lui dit pour la troisième fois: "M'aimes-tu?" et il lui répondit: "Seigneur, vous connaissez toutes choses, vous savez bien que je vous aime." Jésus lui dit: "Pais mes brebis."

17. He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, "Do you love me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." (Jesus) said to him, "Feed my sheep.

18. "En vérité, en vérité je te le dis, quand tu étais plus jeune, tu te ceignais toi-même, et tu allais où tu voulais; mais quand tu seras vieux, tu étendras les mains, et un autre te ceindra, et te mènera où tu ne voudras pas."

18. Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go."

19. Il dit cela, indiquant par quelle mort Pierre devait glorifier Dieu. Et après avoir ainsi parlé, il ajouta: "Suis-moi".

19. He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when he had said this, he said to him, "Follow me."

20. Pierre, s'étant retourné, vit venir derrière lui, le disciple que Jésus aimait, celui qui, pendant la cène, s'était penché sur son sein, et lui avait dit: "Seigneur, qui est celui qui vous trahit?"

20. Peter turned and saw the disciple following whom Jesus loved, the one who had also reclined upon his chest during the supper and had said, "Master, who is the one who will betray you?"

21. Pierre donc, l'ayant vu, dit à Jésus: "Seigneur, et celui-ci que deviendra-t-il?"

21. When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, "Lord, what about him?"

22. Jésus lui dit: " Si je veux qu'il demeure jusqu'à ce que je vienne, que t'importe? Toi, suis-moi!"

22. Jesus said to him, "What if I want him to remain until I come? What concern is it of yours? You follow me."

23. Le bruit courut donc parmi les frères que ce disciple ne mourrait point. Pourtant Jésus ne lui avait pas dit qu'il ne mourrait pas, mais "Si je veux qu'il demeure jusqu'à ce que je vienne, que t'importe?"

23. So the word spread among the brothers that that disciple would not die. But Jesus had not told him that he would not die, just "What if I want him to remain until I come? (What concern is it of yours?)"

24. C'est ce même disciple qui rend témoignage de ces choses et qui les a écrites; et nous savons que son témoignage est vrai.

24. It is this disciple who testifies to these things and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true.

25. Jésus a fait encore beaucoup d'autres choses; si on les rapportait en détail, je ne pense pas que le monde entier pût contenir les livres qu'il faudrait écrire.$

25. There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written.
