2 Maccabees, 14

31. But the other, knowing that he was notably prevented by Judas' policy, came into the great and holy temple, and commanded the priests, that were offering their usual sacrifices, to deliver him the man.

In 2 Maccabees 14, Judas Macabeu and his men plan a battle against Nicanor and his soldiers. During this chapter we see Judas's strategy and his confidence in God to obtain victory. The verses selected below talk about courage in battle, the importance of prayer and trust in God for victory.

1 Samuel 17:47: "And all this congregation shall know that the Lord saves, not a sword, nor with a spear; for the Lord is war, and He shall surrender to us in our hand." Isaiah 41:10: "Do not fear, because I am with you, do not haunt yourself, because I am your God; I strengthen you, and help you, and I support you with my faithful right hand." This verse talks about how God is our protector and provider at all times, including moments of battle and difficulty.
