Exodus, 34

4. And so he cut out two tablets of stone, like those that were before. And rising up in the night, he ascended onto Mount Sinai, just as the Lord had instructed him, carrying with him the tablets.

Chapter 34 of Exodus relates the renewal of the covenant of God with Moses and the children of Israel after the Golden Calf episode. Deuteronomy 7:9: "Know, therefore, that the Lord, His God, is God; He is the faithful God, who holds the covenant and goodness for a thousand generations of those who love and obey Him in their commandments." Jeremiah 31:33: "This is the covenant I will do with the community of Israel after those days," says the Lord. "I will put my law in their heart and write it into their hearts. I will be their God and they will be my people." This verse highlights the importance of God's law and obedience to it, as well as the promise of a new covenant with the people of Israel.
