2 Chronicles, 23

1. In the seventh year Jehoiada decided to take action and made a pact with the regimental commanders, Azariah son of Jeroham, Ishmael son of Jehohanan, Azariah son of Obed, Maaseiah son of Adaiah and Elishaphat son of Zichri.

1. Doch im siebten Jahr fasste Jojada Mut und verbündete sich mit den Hundertschaftsführern, mit Asarja, dem Sohn Jerohams, Jischmaël, dem Sohn Johanans, Asarja, dem Sohn Obeds, Maaseja, dem Sohn Adajas, und Elischafat, dem Sohn Sichris.

2. These went all over Judah, gathering the Levites from all the towns of Judah, and the heads of the Israelite families, who then came to Jerusalem,

2. Sie durchzogen Juda und versammelten die Leviten aus allen Städten Judas sowie die Häupter der israelitischen Großfamilien in Jerusalem.

3. and the whole assembly made a pact with the king in the Temple of God. Jehoiada said to them, 'Look, the king's son is now to be king, as Yahweh has promised of the sons of David!

3. Dort schloss die Versammlung im Haus Gottes einen Bund mit dem König. Jojada legte ihnen dar: Seht da den Sohn des Königs! Er soll herrschen, wie der Herr den Nachkommen Davids versprochen hat.

4. This is what you must do: a third of you priests and Levites who come on duty on the Sabbath must guard the gates,

4. Das ist es, was ihr tun sollt: Ein Drittel von der Wache, die am Sabbat aufzieht, soll bei den Priestern und Leviten sein, die an den Schwellen wachen.

5. a third the royal palace, a third the Foundation Gate, while the people must all stay in the courts of the Temple of Yahweh.

5. Ein Drittel soll am Königspalast und ein Drittel am Jesodtor stehen. Das ganze Volk aber soll in den Höfen des Hauses des Herrn bleiben.

6. No one must enter the Temple of Yahweh except the priests and the ministering Levites; they may come in because they are consecrated. But the people must all observe Yahweh's regulations.

6. Niemand darf in das Haus des Herrn kommen als nur die Priester und die diensttuenden Leviten; diese können eintreten, denn sie sind heilig. Das ganze Volk aber soll die Anordnungen des Herrn befolgen.

7. The Levites must surround the king, each man with his weapons in his hands; anyone who enters the Temple must be killed. And you will escort the king when he comes in and when he leaves.'

7. Die Leviten sollen sich mit der Waffe in der Hand um den König scharen. Wer in das Haus einzudringen versucht, soll getötet werden. Seid beim König, wenn er einzieht und wenn er auszieht.

8. The Levites and all Judah did everything as Jehoiada the priest had ordered, and each one brought his men, those coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty on the Sabbath, for Jehoiada the priest had not released any of the divisions from duty.

8. Die Leviten und Judäer befolgten alle Weisungen des Priesters Jojada. Jeder holte seine Leute, sowohl jene, die am Sabbat aufzogen, als auch jene, die am Sabbat abzogen; denn der Priester Jojada hatte die Abteilungen nicht entlassen.

9. Jehoiada the priest then issued the regimental commanders with King David's spears and large and small shields, which were kept in the Temple of God.

9. Er gab den Anführern der Hundertschaften die Lanzen sowie die großen und kleinen Schilde, die dem König David gehört hatten und sich jetzt im Haus Gottes befanden.

10. He then positioned all the people, each man with his weapon in his hand, from the south side of the Temple to the north side of the Temple, close to the altar and the Temple, to form a circle round the king.

10. Die ganze Mannschaft stellte er mit der Waffe in der Hand von der Südseite des Tempels bis zur Nordseite vor dem Altar und dem Tempel rings um den König auf.

11. Then they brought the king's son out, crowned him, gave him a copy of the covenant and made him king. When Jehoiada and his sons had anointed him, they shouted, 'Long live the king!'

11. Dann führte man den Königssohn heraus. Man überreichte ihm den Stirnreif und das Königsgesetz und machte ihn so zum König. Jojada und seine Söhne salbten ihn und riefen: Es lebe der König!

12. On hearing the people shouting as they ran to acclaim the king, Athaliah joined the people in the Temple of Yahweh.

12. Als Atalja das Geschrei des Volkes hörte, das herbeilief und dem König zujubelte, kam sie zu den Leuten in das Haus des Herrn.

13. When she looked, there stood the king on his dais by the entrance, with the officers and trumpeters at the king's side, and all the people of the country rejoicing and blowing the trumpets, and the singers with their musical instruments leading the hymns of praise. Then Athaliah tore her cloths and shouted, 'Treason, treason!'

Da sah sie den König am Eingang bei seiner Säule stehen; die Obersten und die Trompeter waren bei ihm und alle Bürger des Landes waren voller Freude und bliesen die Trompeten, während die Sänger mit ihren Instrumenten dastanden und das Zeichen zum Lobpreis gaben. Atalja zerriss ihre Kleider und schrie: Verrat, Verrat!

14. Jehoiada the priest then gave the order to the regimental commanders in charge of the troops, 'Take her out between the ranks and put to the sword anyone who follows her.' For the priest had already said, 'Do not kill her inside the Temple of Yahweh.'

14. Doch der Priester Jojada befahl den Hundertschaftsführern, die das Kommando über die Truppen hatten: Führt sie durch die Reihen hinaus und jeder, der ihr folgen will, soll mit dem Schwert niedergeschlagen werden. Er sagte: Tötet sie nicht im Haus des Herrn!

15. So they made way for her, and when she reached the entrance to the Horses' Gate of the palace, they killed her there.

15. Da legte man Hand an sie, und als sie zum Eingang des Rosstores am königlichen Palast kam, machte man sie dort nieder.

16. Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, all the people and the king to remain Yahweh's people.

16. Jojada schloss nun den Bund des Herrn mit dem ganzen Volk und mit dem König. Sie versprachen, dass sie das Volk des Herrn sein wollten.

17. All the people then went to the temple of Baal and demolished it; they smashed its altars and its images and killed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars.

17. Darauf zog das ganze Volk zum Baalstempel und riss ihn nieder. Sie zertrümmerten seine Altäre und Bilder und erschlugen den Baalspriester Mattan vor den Altären.

18. Jehoiada entrusted the security of the Temple of Yahweh to the priests and Levites, whom David had put in charge of the Temple of Yahweh to present the burnt offerings of Yahweh as laid down in the Law of Moses, with joy and song as ordained by David.

18. Dann betraute Jojada die Priester und Leviten mit der Aufsicht über das Haus des Herrn. David hatte sie für das Haus des Herrn in Klassen eingeteilt; nach seiner Anweisung sollten sie unter Freudengesängen und Liedern die Brandopfer für den Herrn darbringen, wie sie im Gesetz des Mose vorgeschrieben sind.

19. He also appointed gatekeepers for the gates of the Temple of Yahweh, so that no one who was unclean might enter for any purpose at all.

19. Auch stellte er Wächter an die Tore des Hauses des Herrn, damit niemand hereinkäme, der mit einer Unreinheit behaftet wäre.

20. He then took the regimental commanders, the nobles, the government officials and all the people of the land and he escorted the king down from the Temple of Yahweh. Entering the palace through the Upper Gate, they placed the king on the royal throne.

20. Hierauf nahm Jojada die Hundertschaftsführer, die Vornehmen und Großen des Volkes sowie alle Bürger des Landes und führte den König vom Haus des Herrn hinab. Sie kamen durch das obere Tor in den königlichen Palast und setzten Joasch auf den Königsthron.

21. All the people of the land were delighted, and the city made no move after Athaliah had been put to death.

21. Alle Bürger des Landes waren voller Freude und die Stadt blieb ruhig. Atalja aber hatte man mit dem Schwert umgebracht.
