Jéremie, 22

1. Ainsi parle Yahweh: Descends à la maison du roi de Juda, et là tu prononceras ces paroles:

1. The LORD told me this: Go down to the palace of the king of Judah and there deliver this message:

2. Tu diras: Ecoute la parole de Yahweh, ô roi de Juda, Qui sièges sur le trône de David, Toi, tes serviteurs et ton peuple Qui passez par ces portes.

2. You shall say: Listen to the word of the LORD, king of Judah, who sit on the throne of David, you, your ministers, and your people that enter by these gates!

3. Ainsi parle Yahweh: Faites droit et justice; Arrachez l'opprimé aux mains de l'oppresseur; Ne maltraitez pas l'étranger, l'orphelin et la veuve; N'usez pas de violence, Et ne versez pas le sang innocent dans ce lieu.

3. Thus says the LORD: Do what is right and just. Rescue the victim from the hand of his oppressor. Do not wrong or oppress the resident alien, the orphan, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.

4. Si vous faites exactement ce que je vous dis, Les rois assis sur le trône de David Entreront par la porte de cette maison, Montés sur des chars et sur des chevaux, Eux, leurs serviteurs et leur peuple.

4. If you carry out these commands, kings who succeed to the throne of David will continue to enter the gates of this palace, riding in chariots or mounted on horses, with their ministers, and their people.

5. Mais si vous n'écoutez pas ces paroles, Je le jure par moi-même; dit Yahweh, Cette maison deviendra une ruine.

5. But if you do not obey these commands, I swear by myself, says the LORD: this palace shall become rubble.

6. Car ainsi parle Yahweh touchant la maison du roi de Juda: Tu es pour moi un Galaad, le sommet du Liban; Eh bien; je ferai de toi un désert, des villes inhabitées.

6. For thus says the LORD concerning the palace of the king of Judah: Though you be to me like Gilead, like the peak of Lebanon, I will turn you into a waste, a city uninhabited.

7. Je te prépare des destructeurs, chacun avec ses outils; Ils couperont tes cèdres de choix et les jetteront au feu.

7. Against you I will send destroyers, each with his axe: They shall cut down your choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.

8. De nombreuses nations passeront par cette ville, Et elles se dirons l'une à l'autre: "Pourquoi Yahweh a- t-il ainsi traité cette grande ville?"

8. Many people will pass by this city and ask one another: "Why has the LORD done this to so great a city?"

9. Et .l'on dira: "Parce qu'ils ont abandonné l'alliance de Yahweh, leur Dieu, Qu'ils se sont prosternés devant d'autres dieux et les ont servis."

9. And the answer will be given: "Because they have deserted their covenant with the LORD, their God, by worshiping and serving strange gods."

10. Ne pleurez point celui qui est mort, Et ne vous lamentez pas à cause de lui; Pleurez, pleurez celui qui s'en est allé, Car il ne reviendra plus, Et ne verra pas le pays de sa naissance!

10. Weep not for him who is dead, mourn not for him! Weep rather for him who is going away; never again will he see the land of his birth.

11. Car ainsi parle Yahweh- Touchant Sellum, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, Qui a régné à la place de Josias, son père, Et qui est sorti de ce lieu: Il n'y reviendra plus;

11. Thus says the LORD concerning Shallum, son of Josiah, king of Judah, who succeeded his father as king. He has left this place never to return.

12. Au lieu où on l'a emmené captif, il mourra, Et il ne reverra plus ce pays.

12. Rather, he shall die in the place where they exiled him; this land he shall not see again.

13. Malheur à celui qui bâtit sa maison par l'injustice Et ses étages sans droit, Qui fuit travailler son prochain pour rien, Sans lui donner son salaire;

13. Woe to him who builds his house on wrong, his terraces on injustice; Who works his neighbor without pay, and gives him no wages.

14. Qui dit: "Je me bâtirai une maison vaste Et des chambres spacieuses;" Qui y perce beaucoup de fenêtres, La couvre de cèdre Et la peint au vermillon!

14. Who says, "I will build myself a spacious house, with airy rooms," Who cuts out windows for it, panels it with cedar, and paints it with vermillion.

15. Es-tu roi parce que tu as la passion du cèdre? Ton père n'a-t-il pas mangé et bu? Il faisait droit et justice, Et tout allait bien pour lui;

15. Must you prove your rank among kings by competing with them in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink? He did what was right and just, and it went well with him.

16. Il jugeait la cause du malheureux et du pauvre, Et tout allait bien: N'est-ce pas là me connaître, dit Yahweh?

16. Because he dispensed justice to the weak and the poor, it went well with him. Is this not true knowledge of me? says the LORD.

17. Mais tes yeux et ton c?ur ne sont tournés qu'à la rapine, Au sang innocent pour le répandre, A l'oppression et à la violence pour les commettre.

17. But your eyes and heart are set on nothing except on your own gain, On shedding innocent blood, on practicing oppression and extortion.

18. C'est pourquoi ainsi parle Yahweh Touchant Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda: On ne le pleurera pas, en disant: "Hélas, mon frère! hélas, ma s?ur !" On ne pleurera pas sur lui, en disant: "Hélas, Seigneur! hélas, majesté!"

18. Therefore, thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, king of Judah: They shall not lament him, "Alas! my brother"; "Alas! sister." They shall not lament him, "Alas, Lord! alas, Majesty!"

19. Il sera enterré comme on enterre un âne, Traîné et jeté hors les portes de Jérusalem.

19. The burial of an ass shall he be given, dragged forth and cast out beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

20. Monte au Liban et crie; Elève ta voix en Basan Et crie du haut d'Abarim, Car tous tes amants sont brisés.

20. Scale Lebanon and cry out, in Bashan lift up your voice; Cry out from Abarim, for all your lovers are crushed.

21. Je t'ai parlé pendant que tu étais prospère; Tu as dit: "Je n'écouterai pas!": C'est là ta conduite dès ta jeunesse; Tu n'as pas écouté ma voix!

21. I spoke to you when you were secure, but you answered, "I will not listen." This has been your way from your youth, not to listen to my voice.

22. Car le vent emportera tes pasteurs, Et tes amants iront en captivité; Alors tu seras couverte de confusion et de honte Pour toute ta méchanceté.

22. The wind shall shepherd all your shepherds, your lovers shall go into exile. Surely then you shall be ashamed and confounded because of all your wickedness.

23. Toi qui habite au Liban, Qui as placé ton nid dans les cèdres, Comme tu gémiras quand viendront sur toi les douleurs, Des convulsions pareilles à celles d'une femme en travail!

23. You who dwell on Lebanon, who nest in the cedars, How you shall groan when pains come upon you, like the pangs of a woman in travail!

24. Je suis vivant! dit Yahweh: Quand Jéchonias, fils de Joakim, roi de Juda Serait un anneau à ma main droite, Je l'arracherais de là!

24. As I live, says the LORD, if you, Coniah, son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, are a signet ring on my right hand, I will snatch you from it.

25. Je te livrerai aux mains de ceux qui en veulent à ta vie, Aux mains de ceux devant qui tu trembles, Aux mains de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, Et aux mains des Chaldéens.

25. I will deliver you into the hands of those who seek your life; the hands of those whom you fear; the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and the Chaldeans.

26. Je te jetterai, toi et ta mère qui t'a mis au monde, Dans un autre pays où vous n'êtes pas nés, Et là vous mourrez.

26. I will cast you out, you and the mother who bore you, into a different land from the one you were born in; and there you shall die.

27. Et au pays où ils aspireront à revenir, Ils ne reviendront pas.

27. Neither of them shall come back to the land for which they yearn.

28. Est-ce donc un vase méprisé et brisé que cet homme, Jéchonias, Ou bien un ustensile de rebut, Pour qu'on les ait chassés, lui et sa race, Et jetés dans un pays qu'ils ne connaissaient pas?

28. Is this man Coniah a vessel despised, to be broken up, an instrument that no one wants? Why are he and his descendants cast out? why thrown into a land they know not?

29. Terre, terre, terre, Ecoute la parole de Yahweh!

29. O land, land, land, hear the word of the LORD--

30. Ainsi parle Yahweh: Inscrivez-le comme stérile, Comme un homme qui ne réussit pas dans ses jours, Car nul de ses descendant ne réussira à s'asseoir Sur le trône de David pour régner sur Juda!

30. Thus says the LORD: Write this man down as one childless, who will never thrive in his lifetime! No descendant of his shall achieve a seat on the throne of David as ruler again over Judah.
