2 Chroniques, 8

1. Au bout de vingt ans, quand Salomon eut bâti la maison de Yahweh et sa propre maison,

1. After the twenty years during which Solomon built the house of the LORD and his own house,

2. il reconstruisit les villes que lui avait données Hiram, et y établit des enfants d'Israël.

2. he built up the cities which Huram had given him, and settled Israelites there.

3. Salomon marcha contre Emath-Soba, et s'en empara.

3. Then Solomon went to Hamath of Zoba and conquered it.

4. Il bâtit Thadmor dans le désert et toutes tes villes servant de magasins qu'il bâtit dans le pays d'Emath.

4. He built Tadmor in the desert region and all the supply cities, which he built in Hamath.

5. Il bâtit Béthoron la haute et Béthoron la basse, villes fortes, ayant des murs, des portes et des barres;

5. He built Upper Beth-horon and Lower Beth-horon, fortified cities with walls, gates and bars;

6. Baalath, et toutes les villes servant de magasins qui appartenaient à Salomon, toutes les villes pour les chars, les villes pour la cavalerie, et tout ce qu'il plut a Salomon de bâtir à Jérusalem, au Liban et dans tout le pays soumis à sa domination.

6. also Baalath, all the supply cities belonging to Solomon, and all the cities for the chariots, the cities for the horsemen, and whatever else Solomon decided should be built in Jerusalem, in the Lebanon, and in the entire land under his dominion.

7. Tout le peuple, qui était resté des Héthéens, des Amorrhéens, des Phérézéens, des Hevéens et des Jébuséens, ne faisant point partie d'Israël,

7. All the people that remained of the Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not of Israel--

8. savoir, leurs descendants, qui étaient restés après eux dans le pays et que n'avaient pas détruits les enfants d'Israël, Salomon les leva comme gens de corvée, ce qu'ils ont été jusqu'à ce jour.

8. that is, their descendants remaining in the land, whom the Israelites had not destroyed--Solomon subjected to forced labor, as they continue to this day.

9. Mais Salomon ne fit esclave pour ses travaux aucun des enfants d'Israël, car ils étaient des hommes de guerre, les chefs de ses officiers, les commandants de ses chars et de sa cavalerie.

9. But Solomon did not enslave the Israelites for his works. They became soldiers, commanders of his warriors, and commanders of his chariots and his horsemen.

10. Les chefs des inspecteurs du roi Salomon étaient au nombre de deux cent cinquante, chargés de commander au peuple.

10. They were also King Solomon's two hundred and fifty overseers who had charge of the people.

11. Salomon fit monter la fille de Pharaon de la cité de David dans la maison qu'il lui avait bâtie; car il dit : "Ma femme n'habitera pas dans la maison de David, roi d'Israël, parce que ces lieux sont saints, dans lesquels est entrée l'arche de Dieu."

11. Solomon brought the daughter of Pharaoh up from the City of David to the palace which he had built for her, for he said, "No wife of mine shall dwell in the house of David, king of Israel, for the places where the ark of the LORD has come are holy."

12. Alors Salomon offrit à Yahweh des holocaustes sur l'autel de Yahweh, qu'il avait construit devant le portique,

12. In those times Solomon offered holocausts to the LORD upon the altar of the LORD which he had built in front of the porch,

13. offrant chaque jour ce qui était prescrit par Moïse, ainsi qu'aux sabbats, aux nouvelles lunes et aux fêtes, trois fois l'année, à la fête des azymes, à la fête des semaines et à la fête des tabernacles.

13. as was required day by day according to the command of Moses, and in particular on the sabbaths, at the new moons, and on the fixed festivals three times a year: on the feast of the Unleavened Bread, the feast of Weeks and the feast of Booths.

14. Il établit, selon que l'avait réglé David, son père, les classes des prêtres dans leur service, les lévites dans leurs fonctions pour célébrer Yahweh et faire le service devant les prêtres selon l'ordre de chaque jour, et les portiers selon leurs classes, Pour chaque porte; car ainsi l'avait ordonné David, homme de Dieu.

14. And according to the ordinance of his father David he appointed the various classes of the priests for their service, and the Levites according to their functions of praise and ministry alongside the priests, as the daily duty required. The gatekeepers of the various classes stood guard at each gate, since such was the command of David, the man of God.

15. On ne s'écarta pas des prescriptions du roi au sujet des prêtres et des lévites, quel qu'en fût l'objet, et spécialement en ce qui concernait les trésors.

15. There was no deviation from the king's command in any respect relating to the priests and Levites or the treasuries.

16. Ainsi fut préparée toute l'oeuvre de Salomon, jusqu'au jour de la fondation de la maison de Yahweh et jusqu'à son achèvement. La maison de Yahweh fut achevée.

16. All of Solomon's work was carried out successfully from the day the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid until the house of the LORD had been completed in every detail.

17. Salomon partit alors pour Asiongaber et pour Ailath, sur les bords de la mer, dans le pays d'Edom.

17. In those times Solomon went to Ezion-geber and to Elath on the seashore of the land of Edom.

18. Et Hiram lui envoya par ses serviteurs des vaisseaux et des serviteurs connaissant la mer. Ils allèrent avec les serviteurs de Salomon à Ophir, et ils y prirent quatre cent cinquante talents d'or, qu'ils apportèrent au roi Salomon.

18. Huram, through his servants, sent him ships and crewmen acquainted with the sea, who accompanied Solomon's servants to Ophir and brought back from there four hundred and fifty talents of gold to King Solomon.
