Genesis, 34

2. And when Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite, the leader of that land, had seen her, he fell in love with her. And so he seized her and slept with her, overwhelming the virgin by force.

Genesis 34 tells the story of Diná, daughter of Jacob, who is raped by a prince of a neighboring city named Shechem. Diná's brothers, outraged by the incident, plan a revenge against the city of Simém. They deceive the men of Shem and kill them all. Matthew 5:38-39-"You have heard what has been said, 'I look at an eye, and tooth for a tooth." But I say unto them, Do not resist the perverse. If anyone hurts him on his right face, offer him the other. " This verse highlights the importance of not responding to violence with more violence, but of seeking peace and reconciliation. Diná's brothers responded to their sister's rape with violence and murder, creating an even more problematic situation.
