In 2 Maccabees 14, Judas Macabeu and his men plan a battle against Nicanor and his soldiers. During this chapter we see Judas's strategy and his confidence in God to obtain victory. The verses selected below talk about courage in battle, the importance of prayer and trust in God for victory.
1 Samuel 17:47: "And all this congregation shall know that the Lord saves, not a sword, nor with a spear; for the Lord is war, and He shall surrender to us in our hand." This verse talks about the importance of recognizing that God is the only one who can give us victory, even in a physical battle.
Ephesians 6:18: "Praying at all times with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching this with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints." This verse talks about the importance of prayer at all times and situations, including battles.
Joshua 1:9: "I have not sent you? Strive and have good courage; do not fear or be amazed; for the Lord your God is with you, wherever you walk." This verse talks about the courage that comes from confidence in God and in His constant presence.
Psalm 33:16-17: "There is no king who saves himself with the multitude of his armies, nor the brave man gets rid of his strength. The horse is going to security; it does not deliver anyone with its great strength." This verse talks about how victory depends not only on physical strength or numbers, but on God's help.
Isaiah 41:10: "Do not fear, because I am with you, do not haunt yourself, because I am your God; I strengthen you, and help you, and I support you with my faithful right hand." This verse talks about how God is our protector and provider at all times, including moments of battle and difficulty.
