Exodus, 33

16. for how can it be known that I and my people enjoy your favour, if not by your coming with us? By this we shall be marked out, I and your people, from all the peoples on the face of the earth.'

Exodus 33 describes the continuation of Moses's relationship with God after the idolatry of the golden calf. Deuteronomy 31:8: "The Lord, for it is the one who goes before you; He will be with you, will not let you, nor will you forsaken you; Here we see God's promise to Joshua, successor of Moses, that his presence will go with him in the leadership of the people. Psalm 23:4: "Although I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no harm, because you are with me; your stick and your staff comfort me."
