26. Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
St. Luke 24 reports the event of the resurrection of Jesus and his appearances to the disciples. It is a chapter full of mystery, emotion and revelation. Below are five verses from other parts of the Bible that relate to the topics covered in St. Luke 24:
John 11:25-26: "I am the resurrection and life. He who believes in me, even though he dies, will live; and all who lives and believes in me will not die, eternally." These words from Jesus to Martha, Sister of Lazarus, show that Jesus has power over death and that those who believe in Him will have eternal life.
Matthew 28:6: "He is not here, for he rose, as he said. Come, see where he lay." These words of the angel in the empty tomb indicate that the resurrection of Jesus really happened and that he is no longer dead.
Acts 1:9: "And when he said this, he was elevated in their sight, and a cloud received him, hiding him to his eyes." These words describe Jesus' rise to heaven, showing that he is no longer present in earth physically.
John 20:29: "Jesus said unto him, For thou hast seen, Thomas, grew; blessed those who have not seen and believed." These words of Jesus to Thomas, who needed to see Jesus risen to believe, indicate that faith is essential to believing in the resurrection of Jesus.
1 Corinthians 15:17: "And if Christ has not risen, it is vain for your faith, and you are still in your sins." These words of Paul show the importance of Jesus' resurrection as the basis for the Christian faith and for the salvation of sins.
