Genesis, 34

30. Jacob said to Simeon and Levi: "You have brought trouble upon me by making me loathsome to the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites and the Perizzites. I have so few men that, if these people unite against me and attack me, I and my family will be wiped out."

Genesis 34 tells the story of Diná, daughter of Jacob, who is raped by a prince of a neighboring city named Shechem. Diná's brothers, outraged by the incident, plan a revenge against the city of Simém. They deceive the men of Shem and kill them all. Jacob is shocked by his children's violence and fears the retaliation of the neighbors. Here are five verses related to the topics addressed in Genesis 34:

Proverbs 31:8-9 - "Open your mouth in favor of the mute, for the right of all the helpless. Open your mouth, judge, and do justice to the poor and the needy." This verse highlights the importance of defending the oppressed and doing justice in situations of violence and abuse. Diná was raped and his brothers sought revenge, but the result was an even more violent situation.
