1 Maccabees, 3

42. Now when Judas and his brethren saw that miseries were multiplied, and that the forces did encamp themselves in their borders: for they knew how the king had given commandment to destroy the people, and utterly abolish them;

1 Maccabees 3 narrates Judas Macabeu's first victories against the Greek forces, who tried to impose their culture and religion on the Jewish people. The chapter describes the Judas Army organization and its battle strategies. Next are five verses related to the topics addressed in 1 Maccabees 3:

Deuteronomy 20:4: "For the Lord, your God, will accompany you and fight for you against your enemies to give you victory." This verse talks about divine aid in the struggle against enemies and shows the importance of faith in God in times of war.

Joshua 1:9: "Did I not have ordered you? Be strong and brave! Do not be terrified or discouraged, for the Lord, your God, will be with you where you walk." These words of God to Joshua show the importance of courage and trust in God in the struggle against powerful enemies.
