Matthew, 27

54. Now the centurion and those who were with him, guarding Jesus, having seen the earthquake and the things that were done, were very fearful, saying: “Truly, this was the Son of God.”

Saint Matthew 27 is the chapter that reports the crucifixion and death of Jesus. Some events occurred during their arrest and trial are also narrated. Following are five verses related to the topics covered in this chapter:

Isaiah 53:5: "But he was pierced because of our transgressions, he was crushed because of our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we were healed."
