Exodus, 34

7. maintaining his faithful love to thousands, forgiving fault, crime and sin, yet letting nothing go unchecked, and punishing the parent's fault in the children and in the grandchildren to the third and fourth generation!'

Chapter 34 of Exodus relates the renewal of the covenant of God with Moses and the children of Israel after the Golden Calf episode. Deuteronomy 7:9: "Know, therefore, that the Lord, His God, is God; He is the faithful God, who holds the covenant and goodness for a thousand generations of those who love and obey Him in their commandments."
