Zephaniah, 1

4. I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, [and] the name of the Chemarims with the priests;

Chapter 1 of Sophonies begins with the prophecy of destruction that will come upon Judah and Jerusalem due to its idolatry and injustice. God Himself will punish them for their disobedience. Below are five verses related to the topics covered in sophonies 1:

Jeremiah 25:34: "UIVAI, shepherds, and cry; and revolve into the gray, leaders of the flock; for your days have already been fulfilled to be dead; and I will disperse, and fall as a desirable vessel." This verse shows that God's judgment is imminent and inevitable, and no one will escape him.

Isaiah 2:12: "For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be against all the superb and haughty, and against all who exalts itself, that it may be deducted." This verse talks about how God will punish those who are superior and arrogant, which relates to the theme of divine justice in Sophonies 1.

Ezekiel 30:3: "Because the day approaches, yes, the day of the Lord is already close; Cloud Day will be, the time of the nations." This verse highlights the proximity of the day of the Lord, which is an important theme in Sophonies 1.

Isaiah 13:9: "Behold, the day of the Lord comes, horrendous, with fury and ardent wrath, to put the earth into sillow, and to destroy the sinners." This verse talks about the coming of the day of the Lord and its wrath on sinners, which is a main theme in Sophonies 1.

Amos 5:18: "Woe to those who desire the day of the Lord! That shall you want this day of the Lord? He is darkness and not light." This verse points out that the day of the Lord is a day of judgment and punishment, not a day of joy, and relates to the theme of divine judgment in Sophonies 1.
