Chapter 15 of Genesis begins with God reaffirming his promise to give Abraham a large descent and a land to live. Abraham expresses his concern about this, and God makes a pact with him, symbolized by the sacrifice of animals. Abraham falls asleep and God gives him a prophetic vision of the future of his people. Psalm 105:9-11: "He remembers forever from his covenant, the word he ordered, for a thousand generations, of the covenant he made with Abraham, of the oath he made to Isaac.
