32. Jeroboam also instituted a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth of the month, like the feast kept in Judah, when he offered sacrifices on the altar. This he did at Bethel, offering sacrifices to the calves which he had made and, at Bethel, installing the priests of the high places which he had set up.

Chapter 12 of 1 kings describes the division of the kingdom of Israel after Solomon's death when his son Roban becomes king. The northern tribes rebel against Roban due to their refusal to relieve the heavy workload that their father had imposed on them. Jeroboam, who was a servant of Solomon, leads the rebellion and becomes the king of the Northern Kingdom, which is called Israel, while Roban rules the southern kingdom, called Judah. 1 Kings 11:11-13: "Then the Lord said to Solomon, For this in you, and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have sent you, I will surely tear to you this kingdom, and I will give it to your servant. However, in your days I will not, for the sake of David, your father; from the hand of your son I will tear him. However I will not tear the whole house of David, but I will leave your son a tribe, for the sake of David, my servant, and For the sake of Jerusalem, which I elected.
