Zephaniah, 1

1. The word of the Lord that came to Sophonias the son of Chusi, the son of Godolias, the son of Amarias, the son of Ezechias, in the days of Josias the son of Amon king of Juda.

Chapter 1 of Sophonies begins with the prophecy of destruction that will come upon Judah and Jerusalem due to its idolatry and injustice. God Himself will punish them for their disobedience. Below are five verses related to the topics covered in sophonies 1:

Jeremiah 25:34: "UIVAI, shepherds, and cry; and revolve into the gray, leaders of the flock; for your days have already been fulfilled to be dead; and I will disperse, and fall as a desirable vessel." This verse shows that God's judgment is imminent and inevitable, and no one will escape him.

Isaiah 2:12: "For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be against all the superb and haughty, and against all who exalts itself, that it may be deducted." This verse talks about how God will punish those who are superior and arrogant, which relates to the theme of divine justice in Sophonies 1.
