8. Why didst thou go in to my father's concubine? And he was exceedingly angry for the words of Isboseth, and said: Am I a dog's head against Juda this day, who have shewn mercy to the house of Saul thy father, and to his brethren and friends, and have not delivered thee into the hands of David, and hast thou sought this day against me to charge me with a matter concerning a woman?

Chapter 3 of 2 Samuel describes the long struggle between Saul's house and David's house for Israel's control. Abner, the commander of Saul's army, refuses to submit to David after Saul's death, and chooses a new king to Israel, Is-Boste, son of Saul. However, the war between the two houses continues, and Abner is eventually killed by Joab, the commander of the Army of David.

2 Samuel 3:1 - "There was a long war between Saul's house and David's house. David became increasingly strong, while Saul's house increasingly weak." This verse summarizes the main theme of the chapter, which is the struggle for power between the two houses.

2 Samuel 3:6 - "While there was war between Saul's house and David's house, Abner was gaining power at Saul's house." This verse shows how Abner became an important figure in Saul's house during the war.

2 Samuel 3:27 - "When Abner returned to Hebron, Joabe took him to the middle of the door, as if he wanted to talk to him in particular, and there injured him in his belly. And Abner died from the blood of Asael, brother of Joab. " This verse describes Abner's death in the hands of Joab, an important event in the struggle for power.

2 Samuel 3:37 - "All the people and all Israel understood that day that it had not been by the will of the king that Abner, son of Ner, had been dead." This verse shows that Abner's death was an act of Joab, not David.
