Genesis, 42

28. and he said to his brothers: “My money has returned to me. See, it is held in the sack.” And they were astonished and troubled, and they said to one another, “What is this that God has done to us?”

Genesis 42 narrates the story of Joseph's brothers going to Egypt to buy food during hunger that hit the land of Canaan. Upon arriving there, they are received by Joseph, who is now an important officer from Pharaoh and who, without them knowing, is his brother for a long time lost. The topics covered include repentance, forgiveness, the providence of God and the restoration of family relationships.

Psalm 32:5: "I confess to my sin and my wickedness I did not cover up. Joseph's brothers finally confess what they did to him, showing regret for their sins. This verse highlights the importance of confession and genuine repentance to receive the forgiveness of God.

Proverbs 28:13: "Which covers your transgressions will never prosper; but what confesses them and leaves them will reach mercy." This verse talks about the need to confess our sins and leave them behind instead of trying to hide or deny them. This is something that Joseph's brothers are facing when they are confronted with their guilt.

Romans 8:28: "And we know that all things contribute together to the good of those who love God, those who are called according to their purpose." The sale of Joseph as a slave and his subsequent rise to power in Egypt was all part of God's plan to use him to save his family from hunger. Ephesians 4:32: "Before, thirst for one to the other benign, merciful, forgiving one another, as God has forgiven you in Christ." Joseph chooses to forgive his brothers for what they did to him, showing them the same mercy that God showed him. James 5:16: "Confess, therefore, your sins to each other and pray for each other, to be healed. The prayer made by a righteous can much in its effects."
