Deuteronomy, 2

30. But Sihon, king of Heshbon, refused to let us pass through his land, because the LORD, your God, made him stubborn in mind and obstinate in heart that he might deliver him up to you, as indeed he has now done.

Deuteronomy 2:25 - "From today I will begin to put the terror and fear of you over the peoples under the whole heaven, who hear your fame and shake before you." Deuteronomy 2:30 - "And Seom, king of Hesbom, did not want us to go through his earth; for the Lord thy God has hardened His Spirit, and made his heart stubborn, to deliver into thy hand, as he sees today. " This verse highlights the belief that God was controlling the fate of the Israelites and that his enemies were being delivered into his hands by divine will.

Deuteronomy 2:37 - "Only with the land of the children of Ammon you have not arrived, neither to the entire Ribeira Jaboque, nor to the cities in the mountain, nor anywhere the Lord our God has forbidden." This verse resembles the Israelites that they should not fight the children of Ammon, for God did not give them this land. This highlights the importance of respecting the limits defined by God and not seeking more than they were promised.
