Chapter 22 of the Exodus Book contains laws on financial compensation for theft, damage, loans, among other issues related to fair and equitable treatment among members of the community. Below are five verses related to these themes:
Deuteronomy 24:6 - "Thou shalt not take the hand of hand or sunshine, because that would be to take the debtor's own life." This verse addresses the question of the pledge, mentioned in Exodus 22:26-27, and highlights the importance of protecting the life and subsistence means of the debtors.
Proverbs 20:10 - "Two weights, two measurements, both are abominable to the Lord." This verse deals with the question of justice and equity in the application of the law, which is a recurring theme in Exodus 22.
Leviticus 19:13 - "Thou shalt not overwhelm thy neighbor, nor steal it; Thou shalt not retain the salary of the newspaper with you until the morning."
