St. Luke 1 describes the conception and birth of John the Baptist and Jesus, as well as reporting the encounter between Mary and Isabel, and the song of the magnificent of Mary. Genesis 18:14: "Is there a thing too difficult for the Lord? In the determined time, I will return to you, and Sarah will have a son." This verse presents an example of God's faithfulness to fulfill his promises, even if they seem impossible.

Malachi 4:5: "Behold, I will send you the prophet Elijah, before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes." This verse is quoted by Jesus in talking about John the Baptist in Matthew 17:10-13, showing how the Old Testament prophecies were fulfilled with the birth of John and Jesus.
