Matthew chapter 16 presents a series of important teachings and events in the life of Jesus and his disciples. John 6:68-69: "Simon Peter answered, Lord, to whom we will? You have the words of eternal life. And we have believed and known that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God." As in Matthew 16, Peter declares the identity of Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
Mark 8:34: "And calling himself the multitude, with his disciples, he said unto them, If anyone wants to come after me, deny himself, and take his cross, and follow me."
