Deuteronomy, 17

18. Then, after he has been seated upon the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself the Deuteronomy of this law in a volume, using a copy from the priests of the Levitical tribe.

Deuteronomy chapter 17 deals with justice and punishment for those who disobey the laws established by God. It is emphasized that it is important to have a fair system of judgment, and that people must follow the decisions of the judges. Leviticus 19:15: "You will not commit injustice in the judgment. You will not make the sense of people with the poor, nor will you lean before the great; with justice you will judge your neighbor." Deuteronomy 19:18-19: "The judges shall inquire well; and behold, being false witness, he falsely witnessed against his brother, then you do how he took care of doing his brother; thus shall you take evil from the middle of you.
