2 Samuel 7 narrates an important dialogue between God and King David, in which God promises David a lasting offspring and an eternal kingdom. Moreover, the chapter also describes how David wants to build a temple for God, but it is informed that this task will be performed by his son. Below are five verses related to the topics covered in 2 Samuel 7:
2 Samuel 7:12: "When you complete your days and rest with your parents, I will establish a son of yours after you, and confirm your royalty." This verse is the beginning of the promise God makes David of lasting offspring and an eternal kingdom.
2 Samuel 7:16: "Thy house and your kingdom will be forever safe before me; Your throne will be established forever." God promises to David that his dynasty will be eternal.
Psalm 89:3-4: "I made a covenant with my chosen, I swore to my servant David: I will establish your offspring forever and firm your throne for all generations." This psalm reaffirms God's promise to David from a lasting offspring.
Isaiah 9:6-7: "For a boy was born to us, a son has been given to us; the government is upon his shoulders; and his name will be: wonderful counselor, God strong, eternal father, prince of peace. He will extend the His domain, and there will be endless peace over the throne of David and his kingdom, which he will establish and keep with justice and righteousness from now and forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do it. " This prophetic passage refers to God's promise to David from eternal descent and a righteous kingdom.
Acts 2:29-31: "Brothers, be allowed to tell you with frankness that patriarch David died and was buried, and his grave is among us to this day. Being a prophet, he knew that God had Promised with an oath that one of his descendants would settle on his throne. Predicting this, David spoke of the resurrection of Christ, that he was not abandoned in Hades, nor did his body experience corruption. " Peter quotes David to demonstrate that Jesus' resurrection is evidence of God's faithfulness to the promise of eternal descent to David.
