The book of Judith is one of the Old Testament's Deuterocanonian books that tells the story of Judite, a brave widow who saved the city of Betulia from the invasion of the Assyrians. Chapter 1 of this book describes the invasion of the Assyrians led by Nebuchadnezzar and how they conquered several cities, including Israel. This verse describes how Israel's infidelity and disobedience led to its divine punishment, resulting in its removal from the presence of the Lord.
