Judith, 10

9. Judith worshipped God, and then she said, 'Have the town gate opened for me so that I can go out and fulfil all the wishes you expressed to me.' They did as she asked and gave orders to the young men to open the gate for her.

Judite 10 describes how Judite prepared to enter the Assyrian camp disguised as a captive. She fasted and prayed for three days before leaving the city and, upon arriving at camp, she attracted the attention of Holofernes, the Assyrian General, who was delighted with her beauty. She deceived him with false stories about the people of Israel and gained his confidence. Then she drunk him and cut his head, giving Israel the victory.
