Genesis 34 tells the story of Diná, daughter of Jacob, who is raped by a prince of a neighboring city named Shechem. Diná's brothers, outraged by the incident, plan a revenge against the city of Simém. They deceive the men of Shem and kill them all. Jacob is shocked by his children's violence and fears the retaliation of the neighbors. Here are five verses related to the topics addressed in Genesis 34:
Proverbs 31:8-9 - "Open your mouth in favor of the mute, for the right of all the helpless. Open your mouth, judge, and do justice to the poor and the needy." This verse highlights the importance of defending the oppressed and doing justice in situations of violence and abuse. Diná was raped and his brothers sought revenge, but the result was an even more violent situation.
Exodus 20:13 - "Thou shalt not kill." This verse is a clear commandment against the murder. Diná's brothers committed an act of violence and murder by killing all the men of Shechem in retaliation for Diná's rape.
Proverbs 14:29 - "The Longanic is great in understanding, but that of hasty mood exalts madness." This verse highlights the importance of patience and understanding in conflict situations. Diná's brothers acted hastily and committed a violent act that could have even worse consequences.

This verse highlights the importance of trusting God to do justice and avoid the pursuit of personal revenge. Diná's brothers sought revenge on their own and committed a violent act.
Matthew 5:38-39-"You have heard what has been said, 'I look at an eye, and tooth for a tooth." But I say unto them, Do not resist the perverse. If anyone hurts him on his right face, offer him the other. " This verse highlights the importance of not responding to violence with more violence, but of seeking peace and reconciliation. Diná's brothers responded to their sister's rape with violence and murder, creating an even more problematic situation.
