Ezra 1 reports the restoration of the temple in Jerusalem after the Babylonian Captivity. The chapter describes as Cyrus, king of Persia, issued a decree allowing the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. The chapter also describes how Cyrus returned the sacred utensils of the temple that had been looted by the Babylonians.
2 Chronicles 36:23: "Thus says Cyrus, king of Persia: The Lord God of heaven has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and in charge of building me a house in Jerusalem, who is in Judah.
