2 Samuel, 3

27. When Abner arrived at Hebron, Joab took him aside within the city gate as though to speak with him, privately. There he stabbed him in the belly and he died. Joab did so in revenge for the murder of his brother, Asahel.

2 Samuel 3:6 - "While there was war between Saul's house and David's house, Abner was gaining power at Saul's house." This verse shows how Abner became an important figure in Saul's house during the war.

2 Samuel 3:27 - "When Abner returned to Hebron, Joabe took him to the middle of the door, as if he wanted to talk to him in particular, and there injured him in his belly.
