3. Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
Psalm 78 is a poem that talks about the importance of teaching future generations about the wonders of God and His commandments. The author of the Psalm uses the story of Israel to show that God has been faithful over the years, but often his people forget his blessings and rebel against him. Then there are five selected verses in order to proximity to the themes of the chapter, but excluding the verses of Psalm 78:
Deuteronomy 6:6-7: "And these words that I command you today shall be in your heart; and you shall summon you to your children, and you will speak of them at your house, and walking along the way, and lying down and lifting you." This verse emphasizes the importance of teaching God's Word to future generations, not only through verbal instruction, but also by example.
Judges 2:10: "After all that generation was gathered to his parents, another generation was raised that did not know the Lord, nor the works he had done for Israel." This verse shows the failure of the people of Israel to convey faith and knowledge of God to the following generations, which resulted in His rebellion.
2 Chronicles 34:31: "Then the king set himself standing in his place, and made the covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, to All your heart, and all your soul, fulfilling the words of the covenant that were written in that book. " This verse highlights the importance of obedience to God's commandments, which must be written in our hearts and followed with sincerity.
Proverbs 22:6: "Instructs the boy on the way he should walk, and even when he gets old, he will not deviate from him." This verse shows the importance of teaching children early on God's Word, so that they can grow in knowledge and faith.
2 Timothy 2:2: "And what of me, among many witnesses, heard, trust him to faithful men, who are suitable to teach others as well." This verse highlights the importance of teaching God's Word to other people, not just for the transmission of knowledge, but to help them grow in faith and relationship with God.
