5. Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.
Chapter 13 of numbers narrates sending the twelve spies to the land of Canaan in order to explore it before the invasion. The verses selected below are related to topics such as faith, courage, disobedience, confidence in God and His promises.
Deuteronomy 1:21: "See, the Lord, his God, he gave him the earth. Go up and take possession of it, like the Lord, the God of his ancestors, promised him. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." In this verse, Moses encourages the people of Israel to trust God's promises and have the courage to take possession of the land that was promised to them.
Deuteronomy 1:26: "But you refused to rise; you rebelled against the order of the Lord, your God." This verse shows the disobedience of the people of Israel, who refused to trust God and to take possession of the land of Canaan.
Joshua 1:9: "Did I not have ordered you? Be strong and brave! Do not terminate, nor be discouraged, for the Lord, your God, will be with you where you walk." This verse was told by God to Joshua, who succeeded Moses as the leader of Israel. God encourages Joshua to be brave and to trust his promises, just as Moses had encouraged the people of Israel.
Joshua 2:24: "We recognize that the Lord has surrendered all this land to our hands and that His terror has fallen upon us, and therefore all the inhabitants of the earth are discouraged before you." This verse shows that despite the obstacles, the faith and courage of the people of Israel were rewarded by God, who handed the land of Canaan into their hands.
Joshua 14:12: "Now give me this mountainous region that the Lord promised me that day. You heard that day that the anachins are there and that the cities are great and fortified, but with the Lord by my side, I I will expel them, as he promised. " In this verse, Caleb, one of the spies they trusted in God and encouraged the people of Israel to invade Canaan, resembles Joshua of God's promise and reaffirms their faith in divine help to conquer the earth.
