Luke chapter 2 describes the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem and events that occurred shortly thereafter. Pastors receive the news of the birth of the Salvador, visit the newborn in their manger and share the good news. Then Jesus is presented in the temple, where he is recognized as the Messiah by Simeon and Ana. Below are five verses related to these themes:
Matthew 1:23: "The virgin will be pregnant and give birth to a son, and will call him Emanuel" (meaning "God with us"). This verse is a prophecy that is fulfilled in Luke 2, when Mary gives birth to Jesus.
Isaiah 9:6: "For a boy was born to us, a son has been given to us, and the government is upon his shoulders. And he will be called the wonderful counselor, powerful God, eternal father, prince of peace." This verse is a prophecy about the birth of Jesus and the nature of His character and work.
Luke 1:32: "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give you the throne of his Father David." This verse is a prophecy about Jesus as the Messiah, the fulfillment of God's promises to David.
Matthew 2:11: "And entering the house, saw the boy with Mary, his mother, and prostrate, worshiped him; and opening his treasures, they offered him gifts: gold, incense and myrrh." This verse describes the visit of the wizards, who brought gifts to the newborn Jesus.
Luke 2:40: "And the boy grew and strengthened, filling himself with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon him." This verse indicates the development of Jesus' childhood, which grew up in wisdom and grace before God and men.
