The second chapter of the Gospel of John reports the first public miracle of Jesus, when he turned water into wine into a marriage in Cana. This chapter also includes the episode in which Jesus expels the temple merchants in Jerusalem and speaks of his death and resurrection. Below are five verses related to the themes of this chapter:
Luke 2:19: "But Mary kept all these things and reflected in her heart." This verse talks about Mary keeping in her heart the words and events that surrounded the birth of Jesus. Hebrews 4:15: "For we do not have a high priest who cannot pity our weaknesses, he was tempted in all things to our likeness, but without sin." This verse talks about how Jesus experienced the same temptations and weaknesses as human beings, but remained without sin. This is relevant to the episode where Jesus turns water into wine, showing that he can provide abundance without surrendering to the excesses and temptations of life.
