St. Matthew 19 presents Jesus' teachings of divorce, wealth and salvation. Jesus talks about how divorce was not in God's original plans, how difficult it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of heaven, and how to follow Jesus requires sacrifices and renunciations. Following, five verses related to the topics addressed in São Matthew 19:
Genesis 2:24: "Therefore, man will leave his father and mother and join his wife, and they will become one flesh." This verse is quoted by Jesus in Matthew 19:5, when He talks about the importance of marriage and how God created man and woman to be one flesh.
Proverbs 11:28: "Whoever trusts in their riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like the green foliage." In Matthew 19:23-24, Jesus talks about how difficult it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of heaven, and this verse shows how trust in wealth can lead to fall.
Mark 10:29-30: "Indeed I say unto you, no one has left home, either brothers, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or fields for the sake of me and the gospel, who does not receive a hundred times So much now, in the present, in homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields, with persecution, and in the world coming to eternal life. " This verse is quoted by Jesus in Matthew 19:29, when He speaks of the sacrifices that must be made to follow Jesus and how great the reward is.
Matthew 5:32: "But I say unto you that everyone who divorces his wife except because of infidelity, he exposes her to become adulterous; and the one who marries the divorced woman commits adultery." In Matthew 19:3-9, Jesus talks about divorce and how it was not in God's original plans.
Matthew 19:21: "Jesus said to Him, 'If you want to be perfect, go, sell your goods, give it to the poor, and you will have a treasure in heaven; then come and follow me.'" This verse shows how to follow Jesus demands Sacrifices and renunciations, as is also highlighted in Matthew 19:16-22, when Jesus speaks to the rich young man.
