Genesis 13 tells the story of Abram and Lot separating, after becoming very rich in cattle and goods. Abram offered Lot the choice of place where they would settle, and Lot chose the fertile land of the Jordan Valley. Here are five verses related to the topics addressed in Genesis 13:
Genesis 12:7: "The Lord appeared to Abram and said, 'To your descent I will give this land.' There Abram built an altar dedicated to the Lord, who had appeared to him. " This verse speaks of God's promise to Abram of giving him the earth in which He lived. The promise is fulfilled later when its descendants conquer the promised land.
Genesis 15:1: "After that, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: 'Don't be afraid, Abram! I am your shield; great will be your reward!'" This verse speaks of God encouraging Abram and promising to protect -lo. This promise of protection is important, especially after Abram separates from Lot and is alone.
Psalm 37:4: "Delight in the Lord, and he will fulfill the desires of his heart." This verse speaks of the importance of trusting God and finding joy in him. This is relevant to the story of Abram, who trusted God to guide his way and protect him.
Proverbs 18:24: "There are friends who lead to ruin, and there are friends closer than a brother." This verse talks about the importance of choosing good friends. In the story of Abram and Lot, we see that Lot's choice to settle in the Jordan Valley turned out to be bad for him and his family.
Matthew 6:33: "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." This verse speaks of the importance of placing God first in our lives. This is relevant to the story of Abram and Lot, for Abram put his confidence in God by leaving the choice of earth to Lot.
