Numbers 32 addresses the granting of Gilead's land to the tribes of Rúben and Gade, as well as half of the tribe of Manasseh. They ask to dwell the earth to the east of the Jordan River, which was fertile to their flocks, and Moses agrees on the condition that these tribes help the other tribes to conquer the land of Canaan west of Jordan. Deuteronomy 3:18-20: "At that time I commanded you to make the following statement to the Lord, 'O Lord God, you gave us the Earth east of Jordan as our property so that we may possess it.' Joshua 22:33: "The Israelites were pleased and no longer talked about going to the war against the Rubenites and the Gadites and destroying the land they lived in." This verse shows that the dispute was peacefully resolved, and the tribes of Rúben, Gade and half of the tribe of Manasseh could remain in their land granted east of the Jordan.
