Mark's chapter 9 begins with the transfiguration of Jesus before Peter, James and John. Then Jesus heals a demonized boy, teaches about the importance of humility and tolerance, and warns of the danger of sin. Below are five verses related to these themes:
Proverbs 16:18 - "Superb precedes ruin, and the haughtiness of the Spirit precedes the fall." The lesson on the importance of humility in Mark 9:35-37 is emphasized in this verse, which warns of the consequences of arrogance.
James 4:7 - "Therefore, I have subjected to God. I resisted the devil, and he will run away from you." The healing of the demon-demonstrated boy 9:14-29 demonstrates Jesus' power over evil. James 4:7 encourages Christians to resist the devil and approach God.
Colossians 3:12 - "Coat, therefore, as elected from God, holy and beloved, of affection affection of mercy, goodness, humility, meekness, long -term." Mark 9:33-34 describes a discussion among the disciples about who is the largest among them. Colossians 3:12 teaches that Christians must bear themselves of humility and other virtues.
Romans 12:18 - "If possible, how much it depends on you, tend peace with all men." In Mark 9:50, Jesus warns of the danger of sin and encourages his followers to have peace with each other. Romans 12:18 encourages Christians to seek peace with all men.
Matthew 5:29-30-"If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it away and throws it away from you; for it is better for you to lose one of your members than your whole body thrown into hell. And if your right hand makes you stumble, cut it and throw it away from you; for it is better for you to lose one of your members than your whole body to hell. " In Mark 9:42-48, Jesus warns of the danger of sin and encourages his followers to avoid temptation. Matthew 5:29-30 uses similar language to emphasize the importance of getting rid of all that can lead to temptation and sin.
